Abbey demonstrates and lives Parkland’s ICARE values daily while demonstrating extraordinary clinical skills. She brings excellent triage skills to our team while stepping into our Today Clinic to triage all acute needs of our patients. She works to make sure all patients are given the resources to have the best health outcomes. She opens the clinic daily to ensure all patients are cared for and have an appointment by exemplifying accountability and integrity to her team and every patient. She brings collaboration and compassionate care to her daily practice.
For example, a patient who was seen at Baylor, who was not able to receive further care at Baylor due to health benefits, came into the clinic requesting support with a catheter issue. She assessed the catheter issue, exchanged the leg bag for the patient, and collaborated with social work to set up further urology care for the patient. Her motto is: “Who else would care for them if we were not here to help, that is what makes me proud to work at Parkland.”
Furthermore, she exemplifies respect and equity by being available for her team to help support them in any way. Most recently she stepped up to be UBC co-chair to help improve morale and clinic flow changes. She consistently works with her peers to improve our supply allocation and stock levels. She recently formulated a supply stock form that keeps track of inventory and dates of expiration. Also, she recently volunteered to be the Monkey Pox testing champion for the team helping minimize team exposure while testing patients in the clinic. As her manager, I have received many compliments from peers, providers, and nursing students. This nurse is the true definition of a TEAM PLAYER that continues to look for opportunities to help others.
