It is just in her nature to care that much.
Christi is the last nurse our son had while in the CCU. He had only been intubated for less than 24 hours. When she came in the morning, she told him she was the “mean” nurse who was going to make him do the hard things so he could start his recovery process. Throughout that day she got him to sit in a chair 3 times, use the “sucky” machine several times, and even walk a little bit. The next day he was moved to another floor, but Christi’s care for her patient continued.

The day after arriving on the new floor, his nurse used every excuse she would think of. At the end of the day, after her shift ended, Christi came up to the floor to get my son up and walk him around. When asked why she was up walking their patients around, she responded “Just this one, he was my patient and I heard he hadn’t walked today, and it made me mad.”

After some complications with medications, my son was transferred down to the PCU for closer monitoring. When Christi came back on shift and saw his name on the board, she immediately came up to see what was going on.

When discussing Christi’s actions on my son’s behalf with another nurse, we were told she has done that for other patients as well; it is just in her nature to care that much.

On behalf of my son, his mother, and myself, we cannot say “thank you” enough for the care and continued advocacy Christi provided for us!

Note: This is Christi's 2nd DAISY Award!
