Ciara was S's nurse in the day time for 3 days. She was so amazing with S, even when being nauseous and in pain made S angry and violent. Even though we knew she had other patients with more extended care, Ciara made S feel as if she were the only little girl in the world! She stayed and held her hand through every yucky medicine, IV pokes, and band-aid removal! She helped her with her drinking fluids so that she may go off IV fluids. And, even when she needed to go back on, made sure that she didn't feel like it was anything bad. What really stood out about Ciara was her very compassionate, fully present care. It truly seemed like S was her only patient at all times because Ciara was able to provide productive, patient-centered care.

As I move toward my medical school acceptance, we have begun getting trained on using our time in a productive manner. That way as we study and learn we can obtain the most knowledge and ability. This training also helps in regard to our families. We learn to be fully present, using what little time we have for the ones we care about in a very fulfilling way. Ciara has accomplished this very amazing training in so many ways!

As nurses, it is not always possible to spend tons of time with every patient. However, if you are able to make the most of the time in the room, it makes all the difference! Ciara, keep up your amazing personality and how you make little kiddos feel like superheroes.
