My extraordinary nurse I had at MVHS was Kimberly Trout. I came to MVH to have colon surgery and was extremely scared to begin with because my mom had just passed away 2 months prior from complications from the same surgery. Kim was my first nurse and made me feel so much better because she took the time to talk, really listen to my concerns, and reassure me that I would be well taken care of while in the hospital. One of my major concerns was my excruciating pain which did not seem to be under control. Kim sat down with me and created a plan to control and manage my pain. She then called and talked with the physician about a pain management plan. Kim shared with me what the plan would be, and by morning she had me in minimal pain and so comfortable. It may not sound like much, but Kim is amazing and really showed me how much she genuinely cared which made me feel like I was her own family. She even took the time to check on me on her day off. Kim could tell by the smile on my face that I was feeling better without being asked. I have never had anyone be so skillful, knowledgeable, compassionate, and kind at doing a job like being a nurse. I am sure that other nurses learn so much from her about what it truly means to be a nurse. Kim deserves more than any praise I could possibly give her but I wanted to let her know how much she made a difference for me that I will NEVER forget.
