Ms. McEvoy has outstanding clinical skills, and she is remarkably knowledgeable and intelligent. She is willing and able to be an advocate for the patient, always thinking of the patient’s best interest.
My beloved wife of 36 years passed away at the University Hospital in October, ending a 50-day hospitalization. She spent part of her stay on 7C, where I visited with her daily. During our time on 7C, my wife was blessed to be cared for by an amazing team of nurses, yet one stood out “above and beyond” her outstanding colleagues, Ms. Kelly McEvoy. Whenever Kelly was assigned to my wife, our spirits rose knowing that she would be receiving extraordinary care, delivered with outstanding skill and remarkable kindness and compassion. Together, my wife and I had over 60-yrs of combined professional healthcare experience. My wife was an outstanding RN and I am a clinical psychologist and also served as CCO for a large behavioral health system. We both worked side by side with many healthcare professionals during our careers and recognize truly outstanding care when we see it. I observed, without exception, Ms. McEvoy providing outstanding care during each and every patient encounter with my wife. Ms. McEvoy has outstanding clinical skills, and she is remarkably knowledgeable and intelligent. She is willing and able to be an advocate for the patient, always thinking of the patient’s best interest. Ms. McEvoy “walks the talk” and avoids “under-promising and underdelivering”. When she told my wife that she would be back within 10 minutes, she was there within 10 minutes. She is a person of her word and has integrity. Ms. McEvoy is certainly a credit to Michigan Medicine and the profession of nursing.
Sadly, my wife’s hospitalization ended in her passing away. I have been touched by how her passing affected many staff members, all of whom we came to know, and appreciate. Despite the final outcome, we remain forever grateful. Our appreciation and gratitude extend in a special way to Ms. McEvoy. Her unwavering professionalism, encouragement, and compassionate care brought us joy in the midst of a long and difficult journey. She personifies extraordinary nursing practice!
