My husband was under observation in the emergency room for three days. During this time, he alternated between heavy medication and terrible pain. After I (his wife) left on Saturday evening, he had one of the worst nights he’s ever experienced with debilitating cramping pain in his abdomen. Nancy was his nurse that night and she cared for him like he was a member of her own family. She rubbed his head, applied cold compresses, and advocated to the provider responsible for his care (who was remote). Eventually, heavier medication was prescribed, but not before Nancy single-handedly brought him a normal-sized bed. The next morning, I thanked her for all her care, and with tears in her own eyes, she told me how she hated to see him in so much pain. We’ve experienced a lot of wonderful nurses through the years, but Nancy’s compassion and dedication set her above all the rest. I’m deeply grateful for her and the care she gave to my husband.
