Not only did Serena exhibit excellent clinical skills, but she also showed a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of my mom, dad, and myself and my siblings.
My mother had the privilege of receiving care from Serena following her double lung transplant, and we can say without a doubt that she is one of the most compassionate and competent nurses we have ever encountered.
During my mom's stay in the CTICU, Serena went above and beyond to ensure that she was comfortable and well taken care of. Not only did Serena exhibit excellent clinical skills, but she also showed a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of my mom, dad, and myself and my siblings. Serena always knew the right thing to say to alleviate any concerns we had and keep us positive during my mom's journey. Her support and encouragement helped us to feel hopeful throughout my mom's journey, but especially following my mom's reintubation and early-stage rejection period, Serena's guidance and care proved especially critical.
Serena was always available to answer any questions we had, and her kindness and warm demeanor made us feel at ease during a difficult and stressful time. Serena advocated on my mom's behalf on numerous occasions, explaining why a certain treatment course might be needed or better than an alternative. And even more importantly, she taught us how we could advocate on my mom's behalf - teaching us the various complicated ventilator settings and other monitor readings, what metrics we should focus on and look out for, and how we could get my mom off the ventilator again as soon as possible. This was critical in shortening my mom's stay in the ICU.
Additionally, Serena's care and continuing to check up on my mom even after she was discharged from the ICU proved vital in keeping my mom's spirits high on some tough days and reminded her just how far she had come. Whenever Serena would show up, my mom instantly brightened and reminded her to keep pushing forward.
I strongly believe that Serena deserves recognition for her exceptional care and commitment to her patients. Her dedication and hard work are truly inspiring, and I am confident that she will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those she serves.
I believe that she is truly deserving of this honor, and I am grateful for the care she provided to my mother and countless others.
