I just want to recognize Megan on the night shift as on night we had a 9-month-old with urosepsis that was ultimately flown to UC Davis. In an ER that rarely starts IVs on kids, Megan established access and obtained blood on the first attempt! (this is a big deal!) It is always a stressful situation when a pediatric patient needs an IV with an anxious parent looking on and Megan handled this with an amazing bedside manner and put the mother at ease. She also obtained a urine sample very promptly leading to his diagnosis and recognized without instruction that a catheter was contraindicated due to recent surgery. The patient needed resuscitation with fluid boluses x 2 and IV antibiotics and she took care of this expeditiously. There is no doubt in my mind that this child had excellent care due to the fact that he had such great nursing care that night.
