He immediately connected to G by crouching down to the level of his hospital bed, asking him about his favorite activities, and favorite sports teams, and showing him how the barcode scanner worked.
My son, age 5, was admitted right after Labor Day for SSS. We were pretty shaken up that he had become so sick. He has always been a very healthy boy, so a stay in the hospital requiring IV antibiotics, was a very new and scary situation for him and our entire family. On one of the days, we were an inpatient, Jason was one of our nurses. He immediately connected to G by crouching down to the level of his hospital bed, asking him about his favorite activities, and favorite sports teams, and showing him how the barcode scanner worked. He let G scan his own wristband, which was "the coolest thing ever!" He engaged in a popsicle "sword fight" which brought a smile to my son's face we hadn't seen in a few days. Though it may not seem like much, the small, little moments matter a great deal in the eyes of a child. I'm happy to say G made a full recovery and is back to doing all of his favorite activities. He still talks about "Nurse Jason"- one month later! I am grateful for the care we received during our stay at Sanford. As a mother and a Sanford employee, I am so proud to have people like Jason working here and I am proud to be a part of the Sanford family.
