She listens to her team and is very open-minded to suggestions. She leads with her heart and her mind and is really a great leader.
"I am Professional"
Teri works alongside the staff to provide the best possible care to the patients. She is available to help, answer questions, resolve scheduling conflicts, communicate with doctors, round on patients and families, and help to keep the unit running smoothly and huddles with staff at the end of busy days to gain knowledge and feedback from the team on what went well and what could we do differently next time. She listens and takes recommendations and is always willing to try new staffing models or team assignments to give staff recognition for suggestions.
"I am an Advocate"
Teri advocates for the team by always being there for the team to answer questions and encourage them. She keeps a good pulse on how the unit is doing and how the staff are doing and can jump in and help anywhere. She has a very calm and compassionate manner and can easily calm patients down if they are stressed or disgruntled and relieve some of this stress from the team. Teri is also very organized and is excellent at verifying all pre-procedure tests, labs, and paperwork to help the unit and the team to run as smoothly as possible. Teri will also advocate for the team if they need lunch breaks or procedure rooms are running too fast and the team is getting caught behind, she will talk with anesthesia and surgeon and procedure team to jump in and help or to just take five.
"I am a Partner"
Teri is very thorough with all the endoscopy patients because she does the entire realm of care from scheduling the patient to welcoming the patient for the procedure to the follow-up, so she is diligent to be sure patients never fall through the cracks of healthcare and that they understand every step of their journey.
"I am Accountable"
Teri takes on full accountability for the endoscopy department. Teri will work odd hours including evenings and weekends if that is what it takes to reach some patients and keep the schedules full. She has a good relationship with all the proceduralists and clinic managers and can communicate open days for scheduling and try to move and fill open days with additional providers or additional cases and flip rooms. Teri rounds on patients and is doing the pre-op calls so they have a great relationship with her and can come in for procedure with a contact and friend. Teri is mentioned in Qualtrics comments weekly and has been nominated for the DAISY Award every time our hospital holds the events.
"I am a Leader"
Teri is a great leader; a service leader who works with her team. She listens to them and is very open-minded to suggestions. She leads with her heart and her mind and is really a great leader. Her smile is contagious, and I have never seen her not smiling.
Teri has been an RN for SSM Health for 28 years (on May 6th). She has worked in many different units within the hospital and has a wealth of knowledge and professionalism. She has been the Endo Charge RN for about 5 years, and she has grown the department leaps and bounds in both volume and efficiency. Teri is a lifetime learner and is very passionate about GI education and thrives on being able to understand the why behind every GI diagnosis. She is such a value to our team and to our patients because she cares about the entire spectrum and shows it daily in her everyday work.
Note: This is Teri's 2nd DAISY Award!
