Tricia approached the pediatrician who ordered the formula and showed him the Weight Loss Feeding Plan that was given to the mother by Lactation Services.
Tricia, a Mother-Baby RN was nominated by several coworkers who wrote many great things about her. In one story, Tricia was caring for a new mom that faced several challenges with breastfeeding. The baby was very sleepy, not nursing well, and had significant weight loss. This was a mom who was very dedicated to being successful at breastfeeding and was doing everything that the lactation consultants and nurses suggested. The pediatrician ordered formula supplementation. It was medically indicated but the parents were questioning the amount of formula to be given at each feeding. The amount given if too much, can affect the next time Mom attempts to breastfeed. Tricia approached the pediatrician who ordered the formula and showed him the Weight Loss Feeding Plan that was given to the mother by Lactation Services. She pointed out the supplementation guidelines for healthy newborns which were based on the age of the baby. The amount recommended was considerably less than the amount ordered. The pediatrician agreed to the recommended amount which was in the best interest of the mom’s desire to breastfeed and impacted her success at breastfeeding both immediate and long term.

Tricia is well-liked by all of her co-workers, leaders, and support staff. She is kind, friendly, and caring. We, the Mother Baby Unit Practice Council feel she is worthy of this recognition.
