Griffin demonstrates the qualities of an amazing nurse every day. Since the beginning of the ABSN program, Griffin walked into school with a smile on his face, a positive attitude, and showed care and kindness to all of his classmates. He always made sure that everyone was included. Griffin recently told me about a clinical experience that he had during his immersion clinical. He cared for a young male patient who had attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head. The patient had undergone surgery to reconstruct his head and face from the injuries, which included his mouth being wired shut. This made communication difficult, so the patient had to communicate via writing with pen and paper. The patient was very frustrated as the pen he was using wasn’t working. Griffin gave him 3 of his Madonna pens and spent lots of time that day talking to this young man and supporting him through his recovery. The patient was so touched that he got emotional because of Griffin's special care.
