Collin’s classes have rigor to them but that is what I love as it pushes me to become a better nurse. The hard work pays off in the end.
I had Collin for my sophomore year patho class and he is by far one of the best nursing professors I have had for many reasons. He is extremely knowledgeable about the content he teaches and is able to explain the material in simple and understandable terms. He exudes confidence in the material he teaches which makes students more receptive to learning. He is so intelligent and knowledgeable about the material that it motivates me to reach the same level as him. He is able to answer questions and not just read off a PowerPoint like most other professors do in the College of Nursing. During class, he goes through and writes notes with you while explaining the content. He really likes using schematics to fully show different processes and how they are connected. He is fair and understanding of student circumstances. He would never judge a student and is always willing to go out of his way to help a struggling student. He is patient and kind which all professors need to be as this is new material for all of us. He motivates and inspires me to become a great nurse by fully understanding the why behind how disease processes work. He is easy to get along with and I feel comfortable enough to ask him for help when I need it. I am beyond excited to have him again for Complex Care because I know he will prepare me well and challenge me. Collin’s classes have rigor to them but that is what I love as it pushes me to become a better nurse. The hard work pays off in the end. Collin is fully deserving of this award.

I have had him as an instructor during my sophomore and senior years of undergraduate coursework, and I truly attribute much of my foundational nursing knowledge to his instruction. He finds God in all things by taking time in lecture to answer individual questions in depth, assessing classroom knowledge collectively before moving onto another topic, and taking the time to ask how our lives are going/how our role is going/etc. He also is a wonderful example of service rooted in justice and love. Because of Collin, I will eventually be pursuing my Master's in Education so I can impact nursing students someday the way he has impacted me. He is so receptive to his coworkers. He also goes above and beyond in terms of volunteering his time, as he is always at the undergraduate nursing admissions events! He also takes the time to ensure that students will succeed in his class, creating guided notes and supplemental video lectures for tougher content to allow for engagement and mastery.

Collin is a wonderful teacher. He prioritizes the well-being of his students and always does a little check-in at the beginning of class.
