Her work ethic is as strong as she is compassionate and rooted as deeply as the family farm she grew up on.
For 40 years and counting, Patty has served as a Saint Joseph Hospital caregiver. Her clinical expertise has guided care for many patients. As a mentor, instructor, and preceptor, you can find many caregivers walking our halls that Patty has taught, from new graduates to the most seasoned staff. She has worn many hats in her time here. She served as a staff nurse, relief charge, unit educator, relief house supervisor, and shift specialty coordinator, which has helped prepare her for the Nursing Professional Development Specialist Role for ICU (Intensive Care Unit) ICU.

Her dedication to the profession and lifetime learning is evident as she is a master’s prepared nurse and holds adult CCRN nursing certification. As much as she invests in herself, she gives to others. Not only will you catch Patty sharing her expertise by responding to rapid response calls, but she is also a member of the team that founded our hospital's rapid response team. This led her to represent Saint Joe on the national stage at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). In addition to her bedside roles, Patty was a member of the team that designed our new hospital, assisted in founding our nursing professional governance model, led initiatives to increase financial stewardship, and contributed to countless process and quality improvement projects.

Outside the walls of our building, you can catch Patty at our sister sites teaching new cohorts of ICU Specialty Nurses Advancement Program. She has long been a Basic Life Support and Advance Cardiac Life Support instructor. As a member of the AACN’s local chapter, she has served on the board, planning committees, program chair and is a past president. She has volunteered her time with project cure, The Gathering place, Inner City Healthcare, and local schools.

Being a nurse is one piece of what makes Patty who she is. She is also a friend, a mentor, an advocate, has an infectious laugh, a wife, a world traveler, a mother, a teacher, and a grandmother to name just a few. Her work ethic is as strong as she is compassionate and rooted as deeply as the family farm she grew up on.

The chance to award this DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award to Patty to recognize her life's devotion to our profession and patients would be an honor for Saint Joseph Hospital.
