Dina was upfront with me and pulled me aside letting me know this is serious and gave me a hug while explaining to me what was happening
I would like to nominate Krisdina (Dina) Gehring, RN in the Emergency Department for The DAISY Award. My husband was taken to the ER via ambulance as he was hardly breathing and not really responding. We weren't sure what was wrong. When I arrived in the ER and met up with him in the room, Dina, the attending RN, was in full-throttle action caring for my husband. She demonstrated several standards of behavior being very professional and compassionate. She had to act extremely quickly making calls and trying to keep him awake. She was orientating another RN while diligently reviewing his chart, keeping him warm, ordering oxygen, and getting a team in to check other possible issues. He wasn’t breathing on his own. Dina asked me several questions while moving quickly to try and stabilize him and get a quick overview of his health. She was very calm yet assertive. She was also very effective in her communication with everyone involved including me. Dina was upfront with me and pulled me aside letting me know this is serious and gave me a hug while explaining to me what was happening (as I was breaking down). After what seemed several hours, my husband was brought up to ICU and she brought me up with him. I was beyond touched by her performance. My husband remembers very little of this day but does remember her eyes and compassion. His lungs were full of liquid, and they ended up performing dialysis to extract the liquid. He is home now recovering. On behalf of my husband and myself, we would truly like to recognize Dina as her efforts made a difference and helped save his life.
