Maria leads by example and loves her team. That love for her team is what helps her lead with a firm hand and a gentle heart. Her passion for people is what makes her a great leader, an influencer.
The DAISY Nurse Leader Award was created to shine a light on those who do not typically have direct patient care as part of their work as well as those who create an environment where compassionate, skillful care thrives.
Additionally, the demands on leaders are different. They are to continue to:
Provide a haven of safety for staff, both physically and emotionally.
Ensure standards of quality patient care are maintained. Ensure nurses have access to the technology and equipment they need – and the information.
Manage human and financial resources across staffing, supplies, and more.
Drive team development, resiliency, and competency, ensuring their team members are meaningful. Recognized for the work they do for patients and families.
Provide a setting where compassion is valued, and staff, in turn, treat patients and their families with deep humanity.
The leader we will recognize for our first-ever DAISY Nurse Leader Award is Maria Boyd. Maria has been a constant here not only for our institution but for labor and delivery. She was part of our inaugural team here at Wesley Chapel. She has been an integral part of the success of our labor and delivery program and has continued to advocate for her craft and team. She is a strong woman of faith, and that faith provides her the foundation to be a great leader. There is much similarity between what the Bible teaches us about leadership and leadership in today's world. Leadership is influence, just as Christ influenced. Maria is an influencer, she is a woman that believes in the power of prayer, positivity, accountability, and vulnerability. Without these things, we can’t be what we have been called to be.

She embraces the demands noted above as she knows it is necessary for the success of her unit, for the safety of her team and patients, and for the overall success of our hospital. Thank you will never be enough for all that you have done to support AdventHealth Wesley Chapel and for being the transformational leader that has changed the lives of those you have cared for and for those that walk alongside you in this work.
