Unable to find a refrigerator in house, Casey made an ice bath to store the milk and continuously changed the ice over her 12-hour shift.
Casey has been working on our unit for about a year now, but she has already demonstrated exceptional nursing care. She is not only attentive, kind, respectful, and professional with her patient and peers, but also provides care based on evidence-based practices and advocacy.
One night Casey had a patient who had a very poor prognosis and needed to get blood. The patient was very emotional and had a lot of anxiety about getting blood. Casey took the time to console the patient and really listen to her concerns and fears. When it was clear the patient had many questions about getting blood Casey advocated for her patient by asking the physician to come and speak to the patient about the risks of receiving blood.
Another example: Casey had a patient who had a baby at home and she was lactating and the baby needed mom’s milk. Our unit does not have a refrigerator to store the mother’s milk. Unable to find a refrigerator in house, Casey made an ice bath to store the milk and continuously changed the ice over her 12 hour shift.
Casey goes above and beyond to care for patients. She is very helpful to her peers, as she is always researching protocols, making sure nurses’ care is logical and appropriate.
