Over the last 2 years, we have had two incredibly difficult patients come to Samaritan for their routine dialysis. Neither of these two patients (D and R) is able to receive their dialysis in an outpatient facility due to their history of unpredictable and sometimes violent behavior. What started off as a combative relationship has now become one filled with respect and mutual understanding. When R comes into the ED and gets frustrated and wants to leave, Darcy is quick to go talk to him and calm him down. If he still decides to leave, he always agrees to a plan with Darcy to come back. R started off very confrontational with Darcy and now feels comfortable enough to offer a hug, say thank you, and say he does love her.

Recently when D came through the ED and required admission to ICU, Darcy was strong in advocating for him. She continues to voice her concerns when she notices changes with him and she always treats him with compassion.

These are only two examples of the patients Darcy cares for but they truly highlight what an incredibly caring and compassionate nurse she is.
