Mandy displayed exemplary patient advocacy, by pushing providers to seek out the cause of a patient's increased work of breathing. The infant had a difficult social situation that was distracting the plan of care, but Mandy was insistent that there was an additional concern related to the patient's increased work of breathing and oxygen desaturations, despite being negative for all respiratory illnesses. Mandy advocated for additional opinions, bringing in the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for an additional assessment. At that point, the patient had a noted murmur, which lead the team to order an echo. This echo indicated a concerning cardiac congenital defect that could have killed the child had they been discharged. This nurse's advocacy and determination to figure out what was going on with her patient, lead to a diagnosis and ultimately saved this child's life. She used critical thinking skills and listened to her gut instinct. We are so proud to have her on our team and this child was so lucky to have her as her nurse. You are amazing Mandy!!
