Each of the students who were a part of the AdventHealth Winter Park Heritage Nursing Internship has had the privilege of being precepted by Waheeda RN, in IPR. We all have agreed that she is very deserving of this award because of her kindness and intentionality with both us as students as well as each and every one of the patients she cared for while we were here. It is easy to recognize her loving heart by watching her interact with her patients. Her positivity and encouragement are one of the main reasons why they walk out of this floor with the confidence to go home.

One specific story that comes to mind that one of us was able to witness on the floor was when Waheeda was asked to go into a patient’s room to assist with a blood draw. Something that would have taken 5 minutes turned into an opportunity for her to share her kind heart with this patient in need. After comforting the family, she saw the chance to practice Advent Health's mission, "to extend the healing ministry of Christ" by praying with the family and really giving them her time, and showing them she cared about more than just the patient's physical health. By the end of the experience, everyone in the room was in tears and they could truly feel the Holy Spirits' presence with them.

These moments are what the patient and family will remember for the rest of their life. We know as nurses how busy and stressful work can be, but nurses like Waheeda are what set Advent Health apart and make all the difference. We were only able to spend 10 weeks with her, but we can only imagine how many lives she has touched during her career as a Nurse and how many more she can reach as she continues with Advent Health!
