What stands out most, is this sweet patient spoke so highly of Shandis and how she helped her hold her baby and took pictures for her.
I work in L&D. Just after shift change, Shandis passed off a patient to me that had delivered a 15-week fetal demise in the ER. During the report, Shandis asked what documentation was needed for the demise. I gave her the IUFD packet we use for fetal demise and briefly explained the documentation and communicated that I would be able to complete it all. Shandis had also taken pictures of this mother with her precious angel and made sure the mother was able to receive those photographs. Shandis had thought to bring the chuck and peripads that were saturated with blood so we could calculate the blood loss. This patient received several hemorrhage medications because of excessive bleeding. Around 9 am, Shandis dropped off the fetal demise packet that she had filled out. What stands out most, is this sweet patient spoke so highly of Shandis and how she helped her hold her baby and took pictures for her. Shandis went above and beyond for this patient who had a horrible loss that day. In the business and chaos of the ER, her nurse took time to care for not only her physical needs but mourned with her, and prayed with her and her sweet angel baby.
