Emma is one of the best managers I have ever worked for. She makes you feel valued and appreciated. She shows compassion and respect for her team members. My grandma recently passed away and she sent me a succulent to my house. Another one of my co-workers lost a baby at 20 weeks and she was asking us what kind of gift she could send him. She is fair. She is an advocate for us. She is everything you could want in a leader.

I am writing to nominate Emma Hirtz, Nursing Manager on 7N at Depaul Hospital. As a nurse who has worked alongside Emma for some time, I can confidently attest to their outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to the nursing profession.
One of Emma's greatest strengths is her ability to be a true partner to her team. She makes a concerted effort to listen to the staff, encourage open communication, and collaborate on problem-solving. This has created a supportive and cohesive work environment, where every member of the team feels valued and appreciated. If the team is having a bad day, she is also having a bad day. If we are having a good day, she is thrilled. I have never had the pleasure of working with someone who so deeply cares for her team as Emma does for 7 North.
Emma is also an incredibly accountable leader. She sets high expectations for the team, but also holds herself to the same standard. She consistently follows through on commitments, takes ownership of mistakes, and works tirelessly to ensure that their department runs smoothly and efficiently. Due to her consistency and teamwork around Foley and central line care; our team has not had a CLABSI since August 2022 nor a CAUTI since July 2022.
As an advocate for the nursing profession, Emma is a force to be reckoned with. She has a deep understanding of the challenges facing nurses today and works tirelessly to address them. She is not afraid to step in when needed; whether it’s taking an active role in a code, taking a team when she sees the floor is struggling or as simple as giving out candy and snacks when needed. Whether it's advocating for more resources, better training opportunities, or improved working conditions, Emma is always willing to speak up for what is right.
Finally, Emma is a consummate professional. They lead by example, modeling the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism. They inspire their team to be the best they can be and are always willing to provide guidance and support when needed.
