In Labor and Delivery, managing emergencies is a daily occurrence, but managing cardiac arrest is not. Given the rarity of these events, when this maternal code occurred, the LDR team operated seamlessly alongside our ICU team to provide phenomenal care. This patient truly required a huge multi-disciplinary approach to manage all of the different obstetric and medical complications she had.
There was an immense amount of respect and admiration between the LDR and Critical Care teams for what the other does. In LDR, we have a team approach in emergencies that is unlike any other, but I was so impressed, and humbled to see the exact team response from our critical care partners. Watching the code team in the OR, and then the SICU team once we got to SICU, was amazing.
There were so many important members of the team who rose to the occasion and shined, and I know every single person involved in her care was meant to be there. This patient wouldn’t be alive if she had not delivered at Wesley. This is a very special place and a very incredible and special team that is absolutely next to none. People like these are the heartbeat of this hospital. I am grateful and privileged to share the halls with them every day.
