He is the only one who addressed this immediately and was relentless about getting the proper care that he needed.
My son E was admitted for a UTI.  During his stay, Sam noticed an abscess on the inside of his rectum.  E is a post-kidney transplant from April 2022.  It is critical that we are careful with all his hygiene.  I had been previously told by multiple nurses that this was just a hemorrhoid and not to worry; however, Sam was concerned, and he said it was not just a hemorrhoid.  There was something much larger going on, and he immediately stopped what he was doing and contacted the doctor.  The doctor didn't know what to do.  He contacted another doctor who contacted the surgeon who scheduled an exploratory procedure first thing the next morning.  Sam did not leave E's side until this was resolved, even though he probably should've gone home.  He was adamant about the importance of having an abscess with an immunosuppressed recent kidney transplant patient.  He is the only one who addressed this immediately and was relentless about getting the proper care that he needed.  After the doctor came out of the OR, he said this could have been life-threatening if it was not addressed immediately and an abscess like this could become rampant quite easily. E had two UTIs back-to-back and no one ever addressed this as the source of the infections. He is special needs and non-verbal with a complex medical history. The fact that a nurse stopped and addressed it immediately, and probably saved his life and not have him septic because he caught something that everyone else passed off as being a regular hemorrhoid is remarkable. I really appreciate the fact that I had a nurse that knew the seriousness of an abscess in immuno-suppression.
