When E was feeling better, Paul sat with him during and after his shift to play Legos, talk, and help E to feel less alone.
Paul took a very special bond with E. E was a new onset diabetic in the PICU and lives in a group home. This made education for the group home staff challenging as well as difficult to be with E during his diagnosis. This left E alone in the hospital a lot. Paul was E's nurse for the first couple of days of his admission. When E was feeling better, Paul sat with him during and after his shift to play Legos, talk, and help E to feel less alone. During these talks, Paul learned that E did not have a lot of possessions at his group home. Paul went to buy E some new clothes, toys, and shoes to make sure he had something to take home with him. Paul stops by every shift he works and talks with E for as long as he can. He even stays after work so that E has someone to hang out with. Paul showed a level of compassion that has made all the difference to E and his new diagnosis.
