Mandie is very involved in committees to better help her patients and our entire department.
Mandie has been my preceptor for 4 months and there were many occasions in the ED where she has gone above and beyond her normal duties of an ED nurse. Mandie is very involved in committees to better help her patients and our entire department. She stepped up to become a SANE nurse when we needed one, she is the chair of the Medical Emergency Response Committee, part of the EBP Fellowship, and so much more. She molds new nurses into amazing nurses. It makes it hard to depart a nurse that guides another nurse to such great success.

Not many nurses have a self-drive like Mandie. Her demeanor to help patients and staff not only physically but also physiologically and mentally is amazing! She looks out for the patients in the past, present, and future, and that speaks volumes about who she is. There was one specific time that Mandie radiated her compassion and attention to detail and went above and beyond for a young (3-year-old) patient that has a head laceration and needed staples.

I was new then and was observing the room, but I observed so much more than nursing skills in that room. I observed a nurse who reached out to not only help the young child physically but a nurse that helped her patient and mom emotionally. The patient was very upset as the ED is not a place where she would want to be which led to the mom being very anxious and upset as well. Mandie took the situation with such grace and found a unicorn coloring kit for the child. The child was immediately relieved and took her mind off of her head which was soon getting stapled. The mom was relieved as well and kept telling Mandie, "thank you." The provider came in and stapled the laceration without the child even moving because they were occupied with coloring.

She improved patient care, trust, and so much more with this one interaction. She then brought the idea forward to start a comfort tote in which she collected many items for kids ranging from 0 – 15 years old that may come in and need something to help them with the situation in which they are dealing with. Mandie went above and beyond for that one patient. Then turned it around and went above and beyond for all her future patients by creating this comfort tote in which any nurse in the department may grab an item to help comfort a kiddo going through something that is very difficult for them. This not only helps the patient but the family as well. Mandie took that opportunity with that patient and then took the opportunity to improve any young patients' care by implementing this comfort tote. I know that others and I would say that Mandie makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the care that she provides to her patient and department.
