I just wanted to take a moment to give a big shout out to Teri O'Bryan. We all know she is an all-star in the house manager role, but she really is so much more than that. Today was an extremely difficult and emotional day on 5 west. We had 3 deaths back-to-back in the same shift and my crew was struggling. I was unable to be there with them through this difficult shift and felt terrible about that. Teri jumped in and did everything in her power to help while my nurses and techs grieved. While the deaths were not unexpected, the transition of all 3 to comfort measures only status was hard to swallow.
One of the 3 was in their 30's and the entire unit was very attached to the patient and their family. Teri went above and beyond by helping with contacting KODA at time of death and performing postmortem care so my crew could have a minute to process the day. She even spent a good amount of time in one of the rooms playing Disney princess tunes. It meant a great deal to the staff of 5 west and to me. I am so appreciative for Teri every day, but I am extremely grateful that she was on house today and able to make such an impact on the 5W staff.

I don't know how we could go about this, but I want to give a huge shout out to Teri on house for how awesome she was today. She stayed on the unit no less than 2 hours helping us with all of our deaths and KODA calls, etc. She then offered to do postmortem care with a patient since we were all so sad. She spent a good 40+ minutes in there playing Disney princess songs. It was a hard day, but I will say there were multiple people that checked on us, offered help, etc. It was one of those days that made me remember why I will always love the U.

It's so hard to pinpoint just one situation. Teri comes in here every day and goes above and beyond for every patient, family member, and employee she comes across. She will do everything in her power to help someone and make things right, sometimes going without eating lunch. She puts everyone before her, and she deserves to be recognized for her greatness. She truly is an amazing person!
