She picked up that I was having trouble with certain procedures, and though I felt my voice leave, she was there to advocate in my place, without having to say one thing.
I was always very fearful of both pregnancy and delivery. I do everything within ArnotHealth mostly for convenience. When the time came to deliver, I wasn’t sure how my story would turn out. To be honest, I was less than optimistic. To my surprise, I was so very wrong.
After a few hours, Lydia, took over my care as a patient. She completely changed the trajectory of my experience, in fact, she made my experience the positive one that it was. She truly embodies what a nurse is and should be. Everything they teach you in nursing school is exactly what Lydia is and does. Lydia is kind, trustworthy, compassionate, empathetic, supportive, motivating, and the list goes on and on. She picked up that I was having trouble with certain procedures, and though I felt my voice leave, she was there to advocate in my place, without having to say one thing. Being an RN myself, I never once expected myself to falter, and I am truly thankful she was there to be my strength and allow me to have the care I so wanted and deserved. She never once judged me based on my needs and desires both for myself and for my child that so often comes with those types of choices (breastfeeding, pain relief, etc.). She was honest and trustworthy; with each new procedure she took the time to let me know what I was to expect and she would be right on with everything. This only increased my trust in her.
She made it fun, too! Once my baby was born we had bets on weight, height, etc. (Not sure why I thought I would win that). She did everything in the book for positioning to help with the laboring process and checked on me frequently and promptly. She solely focused on me and my needs along with my husband's. She even moved me to a nicer room just because. She is everything an L&D nurse should be and more. She not only was my support but my husband's, too!
Lydia is like the best friend that always has your back-I felt so relaxed, confident, fearless, motivated, and just in good hands. I cannot describe and say enough just how amazing my experience with her was. She alone made my experience at Arnot and in L&D amazing. She is the epitome of what an Extraordinary Nurse is. Arnot should be proud! The whole L&D and maternity wards were phenomenal. What an absolute treat it was to deliver here. Thank You!
