Deborah Hansen is a wonderful nurse every day but today, she demonstrated the selflessness and caring that makes a nurse a hero. I am the psychiatrist for a patient with a severe psychiatric disorder. His stability is dependent on the intramuscular medication injection he receives every three months. He was due for his shot today, but he couldn’t figure out how to come in, as he has been exposed to COVID and is having active symptoms. Deborah sent him up with a brief telehealth visit, explaining how to use the technology. She then planned to have him drive up. She went out to his car decked out in all of her PPE, gave him his shot and a COVID test. She realized how important it was for this patient to get his shot. She showed initiative, bravery, and commitment. She is the best!!
