She quickly notified the clinical instructor and primary nurse and together they were able to provide emergent care to the patient to bring her blood glucose levels back to normal levels.
This student is described as caring, compassionate and competent. Showing up to clinicals every day with a smile. With a positive attitude that is infectious. She would even show up to pre-conference ready with a cheesy dad joke to share with the group. Here is an example of one of her one-liners: "Did you know what Romeo and Juliet's favorite fruit was? ... Cantelope!" This student always stayed busy while in clinicals, she was either doting on her assigned patients, tending to their every need or lending a helping hand to one of her nursing peers or nursing staff on the unit. This student demonstrates humble confidence with her health care experience as a LPN and was often encouraging her peers in performing nursing care to patients in clinicals.

There is one occasion, that stands out to demonstrate how this student’s caring nature and critical thinking skills provided lifesaving care to a patient in an emergency. As the clinical group was preparing to leave the unit, a patient's call bell went off, this wasn't one of the group's assigned patients, but of course, this student answered the call bell.

She quickly recognized that the patient was not responding appropriately. She also observed that the patient was diabetic and showing signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). She quickly notified the clinical instructor and primary nurse and together they were able to provide emergent care to the patient to bring her blood glucose levels back to normal levels. Both the patient and her husband were extremely grateful for the student’s quick response and that she took the time to check on the patient. This student is already making a difference in her patients' lives and with those with whom she works. She is caring, and compassionate and demonstrates good clinical judgement and so early on in her career.
