Courtney Turner has been an integral part of our team for five years. She quickly integrated into a fast-paced outpatient neurology practice, tending to the needs of our patients. In addition to the long list of tasks that all nurses manage, Courtney goes out of her way to help our patients gain access to their needed medications. Many of these are extremely expensive and tied to a convoluted approval process that she helps them navigate. Once approval has been obtained, Courtney helps patients clear another set of hurdles to get them set up with financial assistance. None of this is her responsibility but she does it with a smile and a whole lot of patience. It's just who she is and what she does. But that's not all she does. After finishing the business at hand, she is always sure to spend a few extra minutes on the phone with our isolated, homebound patients discussing football scores or other topics of interest, letting them know someone cares. One of our patients with a particularly difficult set of social circumstances seemed to have gone missing. We were unable to get in touch with him and neither could his family. Courtney took it upon herself to arrange for the police to do a well-check and eventually the man was located. She helped another patient living in dire circumstances secure safe, clean housing which took countless phone calls and herculean effort. Courtney does all these things in addition to tending to her work family. We can always count on her sending a funny meme or gif to get us laughing and keep us encouraged. Our team (a handful of people who have worked together for over 20 years) has never laughed as much as we have since Courtney joined us. She is a woman full of grace and compassion and we are all the better for it.
