Cindy gave the patient her strength bracelet that she was wearing that night as a physical sign of encouragement and found a way to make an unbearable situation, bearable.
A patient came in to triage for decreased fetal movement. She had not felt her baby move all day. Her primary doctor was in Fort Worth. Unfortunately, a sonogram revealed that her baby no longer had a heartbeat. She was only a week away from her due date. The patient, understandably, was devastated by this news. Her husband wasn’t even with her as he was flying home at the time. Cindy stayed by the patient’s side, comforting her and providing hugs. The on-call doctor came in to discuss a plan to induce labor, but the patient confided in Cindy that though she was not complaining about her care here, she would prefer to go to her hospital in Fort Worth and have her own doctor deliver her. Cindy advocated on the patient’s behalf to the on-call doctor and continued to stay by the patient’s side while her primary nurse made the necessary phone calls and arrangements for her discharge. That night, Cindy was wearing a bracelet that represented “strength”. Cindy sympathized with the patient and encouraged her that she is strong enough to get through this. Cindy gave the patient her strength bracelet that she was wearing that night as a physical sign of encouragement and found a way to make an unbearable situation, bearable. Cindy has a love for what she does and is a true example of compassionately caring for the patient as a whole.
