Darvona is a rock star. Her full heart was on display while taking care of a patient who came through our hospital for surgery. The patient had down syndrome and was Spanish speaking only and was very nervous and scared. Darvona was her nurse throughout her time in the surgical services departments. She took the time to ensure the patient and her family felt safe and cared for. She explained each step of the process and helped comfort the patient while getting her ready for her procedure. Recognizing that the patient and family were very anxious about leaving each other, Darvona went into the operating room with the patient to help put the patient and family at ease. After the surgery, Darvona again took care of her. She helped keep the patient calm and feel safe. She loved on the patient like she was family. Many challenges were presented during the visit and Darvona met each with the expertise, care, and compassion that make her a great nurse and an even better human.
