I was scheduled for a procedure at the Cath Lab with prior lab work required. Registration had no appointment for me for the prior lab work. In an effort to find out why, I went up to the Cath Lab to see if the preliminary lab work was not needed. I wandered around until a nurse from Cath Lab Recovery caught up with me, asking what I was in search of. I told her of the upcoming procedure (TAVR measuring) yet there was no appointment for prior lab work and that I had no idea where to start to get it straightened out. Debbie noted that I was scheduled for the procedure, but not scheduled for lab work. She began calling around to find out why this was the case, not letting me go until she had resolved the issue. Somehow registration had the wrong DOB for me. I cannot emphasize enough how important a role she played in resolving the confusion. Had it not been for her, I’d still be walking the halls of LRH. She really cared! She is truly an asset to LRH and she should be recognized as such.

A few days later I arrived at the Cath Lab for the preliminary procedure and was greeted by a collection of people, including Debbie as if I was a long-lost friend. I was flattered. People don’t go to the hospital because it is a delightful place to be. The Cath Lab Recovery unit staff are fully aware of this and did their best to make it as “comfortable” as possible. They are a remarkable group of staff members. I will remember them for years to come.
