Being able to experience my first clinical rotation with her last semester and the few weeks of OB that I did this semester really helped set the foundation for my clinical experience in the ADN program.
Professor Kilts picked me out of a crowd day 1of on campus clinicals and told me how I reminded her of her younger self and said she could tell I was a great nurse and will do well in the program due to my need to fully understand things. That compliment alone really picked my spirits up to know someone that didn’t even know me saw an aspiring master's level nurse in the making. Being able to experience my first clinical rotation with her last semester and the few weeks of OB that I did this semester really helped set the foundation for my clinical experience in the ADN program. It also inspired me to learn medical Spanish because her knowing medical Spanish helped break what could have been a language barrier between one of the patients I was assigned to during my OB rotation. This helped me realize the importance of knowing different languages in this field so you are able to communicate with your patient and help them fully. At the beginning of 130 she helped me identify that I wasn’t myself which helped me snap out of the funk I had unknowingly been in and deal with the issues at hand directly. It means so much to me to have someone who recognizes when I'm not myself because as a mother of 4, working full time and in school, I can get stuck in auto-pilot sometimes. Lastly, my competency was a complete train wreck, to say the least, but she monitored my last skill and her presence alone put me at ease and stopped me from having a complete meltdown. I really appreciate you, Professor Kilts.

All of the instructors for Nursing 1 were amazing honestly. They all were very supportive, knowledgeable, and compassionate people. I’m honestly sad that they won’t be my instructors next year but know they will set the foundation for the freshman next year the same way they did this year for all of us. Thank you all for everything you’ve done for me and every aspiring RN that goes through the program at Maria. We are all blessed to have you all.
