I thanked him so much for the concern and compassion he extended to me. I hope that more nurses are like him.
"I couldn't breathe normally, so I was brought to the emergency room. I was so afraid of having missed one of my dialysis treatments and that the amount of water I took in would end my life. Then the ER nurse informed the dialysis unit that I needed to be dialyzed as soon as possible. The fear of being intubated seized my mind again. Then I saw one of the regular nurses, Jeffrey Cruz, walking past the ER hallway. I asked him if I could be accommodated in the dialysis unit. He calmed me down and answered if there was an available bed. He would prioritize the acuity of my situation. I felt relieved although I found myself breathing with difficulty. He offered me oxygen and told me he would come back. In less than 10 minutes he came back and assisted me at once as he pushed my bed hurrying. Along the way, he asked me if I was hungry and offered me an apple juice and sandwich. As soon as we reached the unit, he dialyzed me right after he did his assessment. He checked my BP, connected my oxygen, and even put the needing in my fistula as if I was his family member. He provided me with a warm blanket and other comfort measures. During and after dialysis I felt so much better, especially in my breathing. My fear of being entirely ill subsided. I thanked him so much for the concern and compassion he extended to me. I hope that more nurses are like him. This hospital is so fortunate for having him as one of its reliable, dependable staff. These are evidence that he fulfills and values the vision and missions of this well-accredited hospital.”
