When he saw Amy, he could not communicate verbally but you could see she relaxed him by his facial features.
Our brother who suffers from CP and Type I diabetes came in with a UTI. It was discovered he was undergoing kidney failure. Dialysis was not an option. The nursing staff worked together as a team...every one of them showed compassion and know-how/skill in keeping our brother comfortable. He asked to remain at the hospital and his wishes were honored.
One nurse stood out--Amy. We were told she has been here quite a while. She was M's favorite nurse and he felt especially comfortable and cooperative with her. When he saw Amy, he could not communicate verbally but you could see she relaxed him by his facial features. She went out of her way and was very attentive to M. She spoke very softly to him, and this put M at ease. She was attentive...sensitive to bed sores on his feet and did everything she could to prevent them.... she also took care of the needs we had.... provided a blanket and pillow so M's brother could be comfortable while staying by his brother's bedside through the night. She explained things very thoroughly to us, so we knew where M stood in his situation which helped us to have the proper expectations regarding his care.
