She has gone well beyond her sense of duty when necessary. She is very efficient, professional, compassionate, empathetic, and intuitive.
I have had ovarian cancer for 12 years under the care of the Mount Vernon cancer unit. The clinical nurse specialists have been a great support throughout this journey and at times have kept me out of seeking help from my GP or visiting an A&E dept. One such nurse Laura (who has supported me for about 6 years) stands out above others.
She has gone well beyond her sense of duty when necessary. She is very efficient, professional, compassionate, empathetic, and intuitive. I have found it helpful that I had a telephone number that I could call during working hours if I had a problem. It would be answered and dealt with as promptly as possible by a cheerful Laura and she would always say it was no problem. She has certainly made my cancer journey easier with her knowledge, expertise, and dedication to her job and to the patient (I have also witnessed her dedication to other patients in the waiting room). She would take into account my home circumstances and be genuinely interested and take it on board. Latterly she has helped me greatly in my having to make a difficult decision about treatment options and palliative care which I have appreciated. I am very pleased to nominate Laura Dash for the DAISY Award. I am very grateful for all the care I have received from Mount Vernon Hospital.
