Becky’s kindness and compassion as a nurse helped me to see that it would be ok
I was admitted to majors in A&E where Becky was the sister in charge of the day shift. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and was already feeling extremely anxious about being at hospital due to previous experiences. Becky immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease with her reassurance. She was friendly but remained professional. I had 4 different members of staff attempt to put a cannula in but none of these had worked and caused me a lot of discomfort. Becky was able to help me feel calm and successfully put another in which enabled me to receive the treatment I needed. Throughout her shift, she regularly checked in with me and asked if there was anything she could do to help or make me feel more comfortable. She kept me updated on what was going to happen next too which was really helpful. I was told that I was going to have to stay the night which again, due to a previous poor experience in maternity, I was really worried about however Becky’s kindness and compassion as a nurse helped me to see that it would be ok and I was able to stay without any issues. This experience has certainly helped me to get over the last and changed my view about Lister Hospital in a positive way. Thank you!
