I felt heard and respected by Dani.
On the second day of my hospital stay, I was feeling very discouraged and very uncomfortable. My mind was racing and doubting that there is no way I can go home in this condition because I can barely move and my leg is feeling very numb. I also thought, my wife, my caretaker, isn't strong enough to help lift me frequently. I know I need to speak up and say something but I'm a bit scared to mention my fears because all I keep hearing is "You're going home today". Fortunately, things turned around for me when Dani came into the room and introduced herself. She was very vibrant and cheerful, similar to sunshine. She brought out of me a sense of hope and confidence to speak up. She was easy to communicate my concerns with. She also asked questions and she was very easy to understand with her responses regarding what I may be feeling physically during my recovery process. Another example of her excellent communication skills is how well she was able to explain my blood pressure measurements because they were on the lower side at times. She informed me that she would have to break my medication dosing into separate intervals and monitor my blood pressure. She stated that she would come in every hour and check the status of my blood pressure, and she did just that. I appreciated her congratulating me as my blood pressure begin to normalize again and I was then able to resume medications. Another benefit, of her nursing skills, for my family and me, was her clear directions and clear expectations. I asked questions about my blood work results and she described what those results sometimes look like after operations and why. She reminded me to drink plenty of fluids. Once I was able to get up and use the bathroom on my own, I would hit the nurse button and she was there or her assistant came immediately to assist. Her follow-through was very professional as well. For example, I requested a back brace and she made every step possible to make that happen by making phone calls and following through with the doctor. She wrote down numbers for me to call once I was released. Last but not least, I ended up staying an additional two days and luckily, Dani was there to take care of me. She didn't make me feel uncomfortable with the decision on staying. She stressed the idea of being safe at home and she supported me in relating that information to the doctor. My wife made sure to mention to me that Dani is an awesome and uplifting nurse. Overall as the patient, I felt heard and respected by Dani. She always demonstrated a caring attitude, dependability, and professionalism. Thanks for taking care of me and my family, and being a team player for us and Parkview. I wish you well in your life endeavors.
