I would like to take this time to commend, thank and extend our deepest gratitude to a nurse whom we were blessed to have care for my mother. Hiren was assigned to be our mother’s hospice nurse from the first day hospice was provided and stood by our side until the last day we had her. Many people choose vocations in life and carry out their jobs as if they are just that, a job. That is not how Hiren carries out his role as a hospice nurse. Hiren came into our home humbly, with his eyes, ears, and heart ready to listen and find out what we were needing. Not knowing what to expect, Hiren made things clear and easy to experience. He took time and explained things with genuine effort. Anytime we reached out with a concern or question, we received an immediate response and usually an extra visit that day with follow-up phone calls the days following. His demeanor was always professional and comforting and his time was well spent with us. Never in a hurry. He treated not only my mother, the patient, with the utmost dignity but always, and I have to iterate, at every single visit, took a special moment and acknowledged my father, her 93-year-old husband, showing the greatest respect to the spouse of his patient. He was aware that it was very important to make my dad feel that he was involved which, at times, could have been overlooked with a daughter and caregiver at her side. Whenever things progressed during my mom’s journey, Hiren would make a suggestion that it was better to approach it a certain way because of my father. Never did we know that the kindness and tender care he gave to my mom would be offered and shared with my father to also save him from any unnecessary suffering. That was what made our experience with Hiren a gift that we will forever be grateful for. He is a gem.
