She created a special connection with her patient. She found a way to calm her and respectively listened to her concerns.
I was pulled from another unit to help out the 5th floor. All the staff were so welcoming and helpful. Samantha had a very difficult ambulatory patient that met us in the doorway of her room at 7 am yelling that she needed help because her ear hurt. By 8 am I was unraveling with anxiety from this patient’s continuing yelling and crying very loudly. She was a special needs patient. She was so confused but would be cooperative if you engaged with her. We all had a full assignment, but Samantha was amazing. She printed off pictures for the patient to color. She would continuously redirect her. She made her little paper games for her to play with that helped to distract her from yelling. Samantha was so patient, so kind in explaining and continuously redirecting and calming the patient down. I could only watch and learn from her what true patience and kindness truly is for 12 hours. 12 hours this patient wouldn only let up when Samantha would redirect her, distract her with activities to help calm her down. She treated this patient with such respect and kindness. It truly was amazing. She created a special connection with her patient. She found a way to calm her and respectively listened to her concerns.
