She is always putting forward her best personally and professionally.
I met Adrianne McFarland when she was the nurse caring for me, my husband, and first-born child. We immediately developed a positive nurse-patient relationship with Adrianne as she is one of the most personable humans I have ever met. Fortunately, my relationship with Adrianne did not end with our initial healthcare interaction, as I’ve had the privilege of working with Adrianne for the last sixteen years. Through our professional relationship and friendship, I have come to know her on a more personal level. Adrianne is humble, respectful, and only sees the positive aspects of any person or situation. She fulfills all the CRISSIE values. She is compassionate as she demonstrates understanding through genuine care for others. She accepts individuals for who they are and overlooks imperfections. She is more than respectful providing encouragement, understanding, and acknowledging everyone’s contributions. Adrianne always treats others as we would like to be treated ourselves. She is a nurse of the greatest integrity as there is nothing dishonest about her. Spirituality is Adrianne’s most powerful attribute. She often prays for patients, coworkers, the hospital, and the world. She provides spiritual encouragement, praying with patients and their families in their most significant time of need. Examples of interactions with Adrianne while working with her is she is always soft-spoken, saying please and thank you. “Could you please do such and such for 125 because I think you are so much better at it?” “Thank you for doing that for room 108, it made them feel so much better and they are smiling now.” When we are complaining about something Adrianne will say, “Oh, I’m sure that is not true. There must be a good reason for it to be that way.” Adrianne always sends thank-you notes for helping or a Christmas card stating how much she values friendship and positive working relationships. St. Elizabeth has a tradition of starting meetings and such with a reflection. I often reflect on what an excellent nurse Adrianne is. She is always putting forward her best personally and professionally. She may be very quiet and behind the scenes, but everyone pales in comparison. That is why I am anonymously nominating the Extraordinary Nurse, Adrianne, for a much-deserved DAISY Award.
