While on my way to an appointment, I found myself in an emergency situation. My blood pressure dropped dramatically, and I was in a near-faint state. The closest place around where I thought I could go for help was the cancer center on Old Saybrook Road. I made it as far as the bathroom and called Shana on my cell phone. I briefly told her what was going on. She said she would be right there. Within a minute, she was knocking on the bathroom door. She took one look at me and asked if she could call 911. I said yes. She took my vitals, helped me get cleaned up, got me in a wheelchair, and brought me to the ambulance. She contacted my husband to let him know what was going on. She didn't leave my side until the EMT took over. She has been my nurse navigator through two separate cancer diagnoses, and I don't know what I would do without her caring ways. She has been SO helpful in getting me through the physical and emotional aspects of my disease. I cannot thank her enough for ALL she has done and, I'm sure, will do for me in the future. If anyone deserves this award, it is Shana Proulx.
