Amanda and Karen made every step a little bit easier. They fought for me when my stepmother didn’t want us in the room when my father passed. They provided information in the most compassionate way, without overstepping their boundaries.
I am writing for two reasons. The first being the absolute amazing care not only my father received but the care my family received as well. My father was brought in as a code blue in v fib arrest. He coded 3 times! This came 2 weeks to the day that our mother somewhat suddenly passed away. A priest was provided to us, social work as well as the little things like offering tissues, snacks, and drinks. Also, a rub on the back when I was alone and trying to make sense of everything that was going on. Your staff was beyond capable, caring, compassionate, and dedicated. Being an ICU RN myself I can be somewhat possessive in regards to my dad and over-protective. I never once felt like my dad wasn’t getting the absolute best care. This goes for all staff.
Next, I would like to nominate both Karen and Amanda for the DAISY Award. I cannot say enough about each of them. They both are beyond capable, compassionate, caring, and educated. I was extremely close to my father, often referred to as a Daddy’s girl. He was my hero, losing him so close to losing my mother, was the most devastating experience in my life. I was also very close to my mother as she lived with me in my home. Having to make decisions on making him a DNR, and eventually disconnecting him from life-support was not only the worst time of my life, but extremely painful. Amanda and Karen made every step a little bit easier. They fought for me when my stepmother didn’t want us in the room when my father passed. They provided information in the most compassionate way, without overstepping their boundaries. They made the doctors accessible to me anytime I needed, which is not much because I felt so safe with Amanda and Karen. When my father did pass, Karen gave me his heartbeat in the glass jar. I cannot tell you how much this meant to me and I keep it with me every day. Karen and Amanda have made me a better nurse by watching them. I have taken some of their skills into my practice. For that I thank you.
I know I am not doing justice to the care we received during the most painful time of my life. If my dad was not brought to Lahey Clinic, I don’t believe I/my dad would’ve received the care that he did. Your staff is amazing and true heroes. I believe they should be recognized.
Thank you again for all you do, and all you did!
