Karen went above and beyond for our family. My grandpa was taken by ambulance to Kaweah and placed in a room under an alias as he was not able to communicate. After finally getting a hold of someone, we were able to get to his room in the ED. The nurse working was Karen.

When I got there, she was in his room and already working on a plan of action for care. She ran down everything with me in great detail about what was going on. She helped advocate for us when the doctors came in and she made sure she checked on the medicine status every 5 minutes with the pharmacy until it came in. She comforted us when we made the hard decision to put him on comfort care and sat with my sister while she was crying to sing a song to help calm her down as well as hoping my grandfather could hear it.

Karen made sure we had water, snacks, coffee, and anything else we needed. She checked on his room upstairs constantly to see what the status was and updated us frequently. She also allowed us to have more than 2 in the room and spoke with security so that our family could be together. The day after, she came to visit our family before her shift. We weren't there but she left us a note letting us know she was thinking about us and hoped that we were okay.

In the ED, I know it's easy to become desensitized from everything you see and deal with on a daily basis, but Karen exceeded expectations and I really credit her for helping us pull together as a family in those first few hours here. Thank you Karen for your compassion, understanding, and amazing work ethic.
