I was a patient in the adult acute care unit following reconstruction surgery and would like to nominate my nurse from that evening, Gabriella Macias, for The DAISY Award for her outstanding care.

Gabi was a really clear communicator, and her careful attention to detail helped to prevent me from falling. When I needed to use the restroom for the first time, she emphasized that I should let her know when I’m done so she could come back in to help me stand up. Although it sounded overly cautious, as soon as I called her in and started standing up, I suddenly felt light-headed and fainted. Gabi caught me and immediately arranged a team of others to help stabilize me on a rolling chair to move back towards the bed. When I stood up near the bed, I fainted again, and Gabi caught me again. I’m so thankful for her preparation and quick response, allowing me to avoid a fall and further injury when I had just gone through a major surgery. Thanks for doing your job well, Gabi!
