We had a bad asthmatic (13 yr old) that came in and was in such distress she had to be intubated. She was hard to ventilate and needed to be bagged due to bronchoconstriction of her airways and noncompliance of her lungs. My team bagged her for over an hour trying multiple times to put her on the ventilator. MCA was called and they could not fly her due to weather conditions and a truck was 30+ minutes out. Blake was part of a team from MCA that drove themselves in their own vehicle to UW to meet us in the trauma room to help with the patient until a ground truck could get here. I am so blown away by their selflessness and commitment to the patient, the team here at UW, and their own teammates that they would take the initiative to do this. We hear the complaints far too often and I am happy to shout out the GREAT in this team!
