Hannah acted swiftly and confidently, beginning to diagnose and treat the problem while signaling for additional support from the charge nurse, rapid response ICU team, doctors, and all additional available nurses.
My wife recently delivered our beautiful, healthy baby boy at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital. Due to a specific condition, she had to stay at the hospital for 6 weeks (5 weeks antepartum, 1 week postpartum) and therefore we met many fabulous nurses, doctors, and hospital associates that made our stay a truly outstanding experience. I would like to say a special thank you to Hannah Binkley.

After our son was born, and after countless hopes, prayers, and dreams, we were finally able to graduate to the 7th floor and avoid any major complications that we thought may be present due to his early birth and my wife's condition. We settled into our new room and couldn't be happier as a new family of 3. However, first thing Tuesday morning as Hannah started her shift for the day she immediately noticed something wasn't right. My wife had begun hemorrhaging blood and her blood pressure was plummeting while her heart rate escalated. She was white as a ghost. Hannah acted swiftly and confidently, beginning to diagnose and treat the problem while signaling for additional support from the charge nurse, rapid response ICU team, doctors, and all additional available nurses. I remember a lot of beeping, a lot of numbers being thrown around, and a lot of questions, but always felt confident in Hannah and the numerous associates in the room. After what seemed like a lifetime, she was rushed back to the OR where unfortunately she had to undergo an emergent procedure.

Once the doctor performed the potentially life-saving surgery, my wife had to stay in the ICU for at least 24hrs where she wouldn't be able to see her new baby. I was struck with all kinds of emotions. I wanted to be with my wife in the ICU to provide support in her recovery. I also wanted to be with her when she found out what happened and the implications this operation would have on her and our family. I knew she would be crushed by the news and would hate to be away from our son for the time being. Additionally, I wanted to be with our newborn son to welcome him into this world and provide the love and care needed while he went through many of his first checkups. Hannah was essential during this time for us and provided extraordinary support to me and our family. We developed a game plan for my son when I visited my wife in the ICU. When I stayed with my son, Hannah helped show a first-time father how to properly care for a newborn. After the end of what I'd imagine was quite a shift for her, Hannah took the time to go visit my wife in the ICU to offer additional kind words, thoughts, and prayers. After 24 hours in the ICU and a few more days of recovery, we were set to be discharged to go home. It just so happened that Hannah was our nurse again and was able to be the one to walk us to our car and send us on our way.

Without Hannah's skillful and compassionate care, endless positive attitude, and calm and professional demeanor, our story would have likely been very different. For these reasons, we will never forget the impact Hannah had on our family. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
