Her work ethic is admirable, focusing on what needs to be done and when, but not forgetting the emotions running through my wife.
The nursing staff on Main 8 are truly exceptional. They were all extraordinary but one nurse really stood out. Her compassion was not only for the patient (my wife) but it was also extended to me and my family. I was very shaken up to find out my wife was newly diagnosed with AML, and I watched Sarah care for my wife so tenderly and gently. I watched her administer countless bags of blood and other types of blood products, as well as her chemo, while somehow managing to make my wife feel comfortable and secure. Her work ethic is admirable, focusing on what needs to be done and when, but not forgetting the emotions running through my wife.

Sarah does the extra little things, like catching me trying to stifle tears and slipping me a box of tissues, all while comforting my wife who was expressing apprehension about her future. I was so moved by Sarah’s all-around excellence in caring for us that I brought her some of my wife’s favorite treats one day. It was such a comfort to see her caring for my wife as I stepped into the room on the days she was working, and to know she was there when I left to go home. I found that she treated my entire family with just as much respect as she did my wife, as she answered our numerous questions and offered support and advocacy.

***

My mother has had frequent admissions with her aggressive leukemia diagnosis this past winter. Sarah was a consistent positive light in my mother’s cancer care and instantly put her at ease when she walked in the room. Her jokes and quick wit made even a horrible day bearable. She made her feel safe despite her poor prognosis. My family is eternally grateful for the care and compassion Sarah provided.
